User Guide Instructions

DesignPLUS allows for custom user guides to be created, but the page must be named a certain way.  To add a new user guide:

1. Create a new page in the customizations course.
2. Title it [Guide], followed by space, and the title of the guide.
   
3. Add the content to the page.
4. Save and publish the page.

To edit an existing guide:

1. Edit the [Guide] page.
2. Make your changes.
3. Save the page.

You can add categories to user guides to help organize them in expanders in the sidebar. User guides without a category will be added to a "General" expander panel.

To add a category to a guide:

1. If you're working with an existing guide, edit the [Guide] page title as indicated in step 2. If you're creating a new page, follow step 2 when naming the page.
2. After the [Guide] prefix in the page title, add another prefix with your category name inside the square brackets.
   

For example, if I wanted a guide about accessible links to have an "Accessibility and Usability" category, I could name the page, "[Guide][Accessibility and Usability] How to make links accessible".

In a Primary, Extended, or Shared Customizations Course:

You can toggle the visibility of individual guides. This is controlled through the published state of the page. 

• • To show a guide, simply publish the page. 
  • To hide a guide, unpublish the page. 

Course-level customization for a single course:

If a [Guide] page is in the current course, it will be loaded in the Local Tutorials tool regardless of its published state. To remove it from the sidebar, you can remove the [Guide] prefix from the page title.

If you have a draft version of a guide you are working on but don't want users to see yet, you could temporarily title it with "[Guide-draft]", and it will not be picked up by the sidebar until you remove the "-draft" from the title.

You may remove user guides that you do not want anymore. 

In a Primary, Extended, or Shared Customizations Course:

Simply delete the [Guide] page from the course.  Alternatively, you can unpublish the guide to make it unavailable to users but still keep the page.

Course-level customization for a single course:

At the course-level, we have designed the [Guide] pages to appear in the sidebar, even if they are unpublished in the Pages area. If you wish to remove a tutorial from the course, you will need to delete the [Guide] page.
