The tables below show overall feature parity between the new DesignPLUS Sidebar and the legacy version of Design Tools. Features that are still pending are highlighted in red. Features with limited availability or additional usage notes are highlighted in yellow. The following list shows the new features added in the new DesignPLUS Sidebar.

Upgrade Legacy Content
Content built using legacy Design Tools can be upgraded in a few clicks via the new Sidebar.
Tutorials
Build and insert tutorials from customizations courses.
Course Level Customizations
Any pages that can be defined in a customizations course can be added at a course level.
Import Images
View images in the Canvas files of customizations courses and import them into the current course.  Also, any images on a page linked to other courses can be imported and updated with the External Assets tool.
Import External Files
Any files on a page that are sourced outside of the current course can be imported using the External Assets tool.
Custom Button Styles
Adjust size and color, including on different states like hover, using the Button tool.
Questions
Similar to Objective tool, host a list of pre-written questions that can be dropped into discussions instructions.
Math Checker
Suggests alt text for LaTeX and Canvas equation editor expressions 
Read Time
Add an estimated read time at the top of the page for longer content pages.
Canvas Shortcuts
Insert buttons on pages.  All: message teacher button; Group assignments/discussions: message group button, view group members; Graded, rubric discussion: view rubric button
Separate Banner and Heading Styles
Control the style of the top banner separately from the rest of the headings.
User Level Styles
Save styles to a user level.
Set accordion/tab/expander heading level, styles
Change to h2 through h6; adjust default, active, and hover colors.
Import template page to top, bottom
In addition to overwriting the page, you can also add template pages to the top or bottom of current content.
Set heading level, position of content block
You can choose to place content blocks at the top, bottom, or at cursor; heading levels h2 through h6.
H1 option in banners
You can now use an h1 heading in banners.
Add images from folders, swap images
Add images, select folders, courses; keep image styling but just change out source with Choose a Different Image button
Link list styles
Can select styles and place anywhere, not just in a navigation block.
New editor action item types
Additional types of key action items have been added.
Create and save custom link grid
Style link grid (nav block) and save to user level.
Module list colors
Adjust default, active, and hover colors.
